The Civil Protection Department of the Campania Region, based on assessments by the Functional Center, has issued a yellow weather alert for the entire region. The advisory, effective from midnight tonight until 11:59 PM on Sunday, December 8, highlights adverse weather conditions with potential impacts on the territory.
Forecasts predict scattered rainfall, locally intense, accompanied by thunderstorms and heavy showers, which could lead to hydrogeological instability. Identified risks include flooding, overflows, surface water runoffs, landslides, and falling rocks, due to soil fragility in certain areas.
The situation will be exacerbated by strong southwesterly winds with violent gusts, posing risks to exposed structures, as well as rough seas with coastal surges. A significant drop in temperatures is also expected, with snow falling at altitudes of 1000 meters and, in some cases, at lower elevations.
The Regional Civil Protection has urged the mayors of all municipalities in Campania to activate their Municipal Operational Centers (COC) and implement the measures outlined in their respective civil protection plans. Special attention should be given to monitoring green areas and structures exposed to high winds.
Residents are encouraged to follow updates from the Regional Civil Protection Operations Center and to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in the most at-risk areas. Extensions to the weather alert cannot be ruled out, depending on the evolution of the disturbance.
