It was a difficult morning on the Amalfi Coast, where the suspension of maritime connections, today April 14, 2025, has inevitably brought the entire road-based public transport system to its knees. The announcement came from Travelmar, which officially canceled all departures on April 14th, 2025, due to adverse sea and weather conditions.
"We regret to inform you that today, April 14th, due to the adverse sea and weather conditions, all our departures from and to Salerno, Vietri sul Mare, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi and Positano are suspended", reads the company’s official email.
With no ferry alternatives available, hundreds of tourists crowded at bus stops, immediately overloading the SITA Sud bus service. As several images taken this morning show, the buses are packed to capacity, forcing many passengers to wait in the rain, while others, discouraged, decided to walk or search for alternative means of transport.
In Maiori in particular, critical issues were evident from the early hours of the morning: buses passed without stopping due to a lack of available seats, leaving dozens of people - many with luggage – stranded. The situation, already difficult during spring weekends, becomes unmanageable on days like this, when the entire infrastructure collapses due to the absence of an effective emergency plan.
On days with bad weather, it's strongly advised to avoid relying on public transportation along the Amalfi Coast. The suspension of ferry services significantly reduces mobility options, and buses often become overcrowded and unreliable. This affects not only tourists but also local students trying to reach school. Plan ahead and consider private transfers or rescheduling your trip to avoid unnecessary stress.
