Land between the mountains ("intra montes" in Latin), Tramonti is a wonderful town on the Amalfi Coast, set at the foot of the Lattari Mountains and surrounded by a suggestive bucolic landscape consisting of about 145 acres of woods, terraces cultivated with lemon trees, olive trees, and vineyards. The area is rich in springs, rivers, and picturesque corners in close contact with nature. It is composed of 13 hamlets scattered across small plateaus: Pucara, Novella, Gete, Ponte, Campinola, Corsano, Cesarano, Pietre, Capitignano, Figline, Paterno Sant'Arcangelo, Paterno Sant'Elia, and Polvica.

Local historians affirm that the ancient village of Tramonti was founded by the Picentines, who were exiled by the Romans after the conquest of the coastal areas. During the Middle Ages, it followed the events of the Ancient Maritime Republic of Amalfi, contributing to the economic and commercial fortune of the coastal town.

In addition to the excellent local wines, produced by autochthonous grapes and characterized by the unique aromas of this area, Tramonti is also famous for its contribution to the global recognition of pizza. This culinary tradition owes much to the natural vocation of its inhabitants, who traditionally baked pizza alongside bread and toast in their ovens.

Notable sites in Tramonti include:

  • The remains of the Castle of Santa Maria la Nova, built in 1457 by Raimondo Orsini, prince of Salerno. It was fortified with ten small towers and seven square bastions, and inside, there was a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
  • The remains of the Castle of Montalto, partially hidden by vegetation, on the top of Mount Montalto, between Tramonti and Ravello.
  • The remains of the Chiunzi Tower, on the mountain pass of the same name, which was part of the defensive system of the Republic of Amalfi. It overlooks the Agro-Nocerino-Sarnese area, the Phlegrean Fields, Naples, and Vesuvius.
  • The remains of a rustic Roman villa in the hamlet of Polvica.
  • The Church of Sant'Erasmo in the hamlet of Pucara, rebuilt between the 15th and 16th centuries on the remains of the ancient Church of San Sebastiano. Inside, visitors can admire valuable paintings attributed to Luca Giordano's workshop and a cinerary urn.
  • The rocky Chapel in the hamlet of Gete, dating back to the 13th century.
  • The Church of Sant'Elia in the hamlet of the same name, featuring a beautiful lava stone portal.
  • The Church of San Pietro in the hamlet of Figline, with Baroque-style decoration and a fine tiled floor.
  • The Church of San Giovanni in the hamlet of Polvica.
  • The Church of Ascensione, with a Romanesque-style bell tower.
  • The Church and Convent of San Francesco in the hamlet of Polvica, dating back to the 15th century.
  • The Royal Conservatory of Saints Teresa and Giuseppe, dating back to the 17th century, where the famous "concerto" liqueur - a digestive made from the maceration of several spices in pure alcohol - was first prepared.
